One Moment In Time-Texts and reflection upon the song "One Moment in Time" - Whitney Houston

One Moment In Time

When thinking about the moments during the course of a lifetime, those that are considered topmost, where it seems that all efforts, all energies focused toward a goal, converge to become a tangible reality; In which of them we felt reflected ? In which of them we feel the deep certainty of having achieved the supreme goal of our life?
Which of them fills us of deep satisfaction of having reached?
In a competitive athlete, it is very easy for us to recognize these moments in which they experience the glorious feeling of having done everything very well, having invested their time properly, physical and mental effort, of having neglected many moments of pleasure, for surrender himself to the preparation: the moment to cross the arrival or the moment of the award.
Or maybe in the world of film or music, we see the fulfillment of those sublime moments in which shall be appointed among the best and many will be witness of this privilege.
But in those where the objectives are more diffuse, less glamorous, less exhibited in view of the world; which could be "the moment in time where we will feel eternity" ?
Will the birth of the first child? or perhaps, take the final examination of a university degree, achieved with great sacrifice? will be perhaps the first encounter with his/her significant alter ego (partner)?
What is the essence that nourishes that moment in time? What are the human values we carry with us to understand when that time will come in which we will weep with happiness, as if we will reaching eternity?
I can give you just one example, in which none of the above examples, had weight and relevance: a person on his deathbed, saying goodbye to their children, feeling the task accomplished and the satisfaction of seeing all around them, choosing your final journey, being loved and valued for their new generations.
Maybe that moment in time, is more modest, less pretentious, but no less valuable.
Not many days ago, I could understand a person in a very different, closer, less distant to me, dimension, and at that moment, I felt that countless times had formed a gradual process, which together showed me a complete picture, that I had never perceived it as such.
I suppose then, that we must come to a deeper understanding of ourselves, a complete introspective vision, to know it for sure.
Then, we may find that one of the highlighted moments will be, having reached the necessary understanding to determine those moments, when our consciousness expands to capture us ourselves throughout our eternal vastness and throughout our temporal finitude.
Only then, we, as the lyrics of the song definitely, will be free.

One Moment In Time

By: Whitney Houston/Hammond/Bettis

Each day I live
I want to be
A day to give
The best of me
I'm only one
But not alone
My finest day
Is yet unknown

I broke my heart
Fought every gain
To taste the sweet
I face the pain
I rise and fall
Yet through it all
This much remains

I want one moment in time
When I'm more than I thought I could be
When all of my dreams are a heartbeat away
And the answers are all up to me
Give me one moment in time
When I'm racing with destiny
Then in that one moment of time
I will feel
I will feel eternity

I've lived to be
The very best
I want it all
No time for less
I've laid the plans
Now lay the chance
Here in my hands

Give me one moment in time
When I'm more than I thought I could be
When all of my dreams are a heartbeat away
And the answers are all up to me
Give me one moment in time
When I'm racing with destiny
Then in that one moment of time
I will feel
I will feel eternity

You're a winner for a lifetime
If you seize that one moment in time
Make it shine

Give me one moment in time
When I'm more than I thought I could be
When all of my dreams are a heartbeat away
And the answers are all up to me
Give me one moment in time
When I'm racing with destiny
Then in that one moment of time
I will be
I will be
I will be free
I will be

"One Moment in Time" is an Emmy Award winning song written by Albert Hammond and John Bettis, produced by Narada Michael Walden and recorded by American singer Whitney Houston for the 1988 Summer Olympics and the 1988 Summer Paralympics held in Seoul, South Korea.
The song's melody was inspired by the timeless figure of Elvis Presley, with Hammond imagining it as being sung by Presley at the opening of the Olympics. It appeared on the album 1988 Summer Olympics Album: One Moment in Time, produced in conjunction with NBC Sports' coverage of the Seoulgames and which, in addition to Whitney Houston who sang it live at the main ceremony, also featured artists such as: The Four Tops, The Bee Gees, Eric Carmen, Taylor Dayne and the film composer John Williams.
The track is an anthem for believing in yourself against all odds as Houston asks for "One moment in time/when I'm racing with destiny/Then, in that one moment of time, I will feel eternity".
